Vuyo Brown says that 2020 could be remembered as a bad year for many but it came with a lot of good things for her and music. She yearned to rest from her busy schedule and the lockdown came afforded her to do that. In the same year she won recognition and awards with Thula Wazi, creating a buzz around her music nationally. It also afforded her the time to do a musical video for the song, further strengthening herself as a musical icon in the region.
She takes a different approach to her music, choosing not to stick to the norms of how gospel music in Zimbabwe is perceived. She says everyone can sing gospel and it doesn’t have to be in the norm that people expect. It is this drive that helped her launch her career.
I felt that the first time when I interviewed her on my last show at my previous gig, there were a lot of things that we didn’t cover. I felt like there was a different conversation that we needed to have and I wanted to get an understanding more of who Vuyo Brown is, what makes her tick and how she intends her music to impact Zimbabwe PLUS her mentoring of young and upcoming artists.
It was definitely an eye opener as we got to chill even more and explore more about music and life. Listen to the interview here.
